AI Knowledge Twins Created by VU Professors Attract International Media Attention: Is Lithuania a Role Model for Germany?

The German public radio cultural station Deutschlandfunk Kultur featured a report titled 鈥淚s Lithuania a Role Model for Germany?鈥, presenting Lithuania as a positive example due to the innovative use of AI knowledge twins in VU鈥檚 teaching process.

In the spring semester of 2024, VU students enrolled in the data protection law course gave high praise to this innovation. They described it as a unique experience that not only enhanced their legal knowledge but also strengthened their self-confidence.

鈥淚 enriched [my digital twin] with my expertise鈥攍ecture materials, academic works, and publications. My AI twin is an expert in copyright and data protection, just like me,鈥 explained Dr Paulius Jur膷ys during the radio programme.

The radio journalist noted that Dr Jur膷ys emphasised the key advantage of the AI knowledge twins鈥攖hey safeguard student privacy. Unlike ChatGPT, this system does not require registration with a name or email address. According to Dr Jur膷ys, universities should be preparing students for a future where AI will play a significant role, rather than restricting its use.

鈥淲e need to reconsider the purpose of the university. It is the responsibility of educators to prepare students for this new world. This entails fundamentally restructuring lectures and the education system,鈥 said Dr Jur膷ys.

The journalist remarked that this 鈥渘ew world,鈥 as described by Dr Jur膷ys, clearly resonates with students. During the broadcast, VU student Mar铆a Ignacia Borgo帽o Serrano expressed her delight at choosing Lithuania for her master鈥檚 studies.
