Effectiveness of Economic and Social Policy: Modernisation, Growth and Globalisation. Prof. A. Mi拧kinis. 2018鈥2019.

First research analysed health care institutions in Lithuania, the qualitative and quantitative indicators of health care at the municipal level. The aim of the study was to evaluate the administrative units of different territories and, from the medical level perspective, identify the best performing and most lagging municipalities. Huge differences between the territories were found after examining abundant statistical information and taking into account the analysis of the data of all the statistic residents of the Territorial Health Insurance Funds (THIF) and those registered at the outpatient primary personal health care institutions (OPPHCI).
One more study incorporated an interdisciplinary approach by applying data science for identifying regional economic development problems and policy issues. Data science by combining various aspects of computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, and visualization allow to analyse huge amounts of data and to extract knowledge. Visualization methods based both on dimensionality reduction and on artificial neural networks were applied in the study to the visual efficiency analysis of regional economic development to evaluate how regional resources were reflected in the economic results in the EU NUTS2 regions.
Another study analysed risks of violating ecological limits set by the European Commission. The study analysed the potential impact of the seed treatment with thiamethoxam and clothianidin on the normally developed bee colonies. The obtained findings suggested that when sowing neonicotinoid-treated winter and spring rapeseed in a dry soil, the concentrations of neonicotinoids in the dust released during the sowing operation were three times as high as the maximum permitted limit set by the European Committee.

International Research Projects

Project: Reassessment of the Optimum Currency Area in the Persistently Heterogeneous European Union (Euro4Europe). Project funded by the European Social Fund. Dr. S. Kapounek. 2018鈥2022.

The project aims at reassessing the evolution of business cycle synchronization in Europe from an encompassing point of view. It will analyse the evolution of business cycles at different levels of territorial disaggregation (national and regional), using a wide range of different univariate and multivariate econometric methods for measuring business cycle synchronization. Furthermore, it will use recently developed methods of causal inference to identify the effects of various integration steps and economic developments. In particular, the project will first assess the statistical properties and reliability of several concepts of business cycle synchronization.

The Study of Quality Management Methods and Tools Application for the Improvement of Effectiveness of Organizations Performance. Prof. J. Ru啪evi膷ius. 2016鈥2020.

The purpose of this research was to develop quality management theory and methodology striving for the growth of the competitiveness of Lithuanian economy, improving the effectiveness of the performance of private and public organizations and quality of public life.
The following targets in 2019 were addressed: 1) Socially oriented green economy (SOGE) implementation possibilities in Lithuania were studied and identified within conceptual framework. The development of SOGE needs coordinated policies and efforts of several ministries of Lithuania in order to create proper legal environment and support with human, material, environmental resources. Vertical governmental and municipal structures should be transformed into flat, cross-institutional structures which employs lean and agile decision making and policy implementation processes. 2) The concept of quality of working life in an organisation was developed. A model of quality of life was designed, which includes eight domains of quality of life and their factors. The research findings show that studied organization has possibilities to increase their employee鈥檚 quality of life and loyalty by improving working conditions and environment. The research of balance of work and personal life was conducted also. It was found that a different nature of work really determines a different work-life balance from the objective point of view. 3) Analysis of Lean tools and principles, of organizational culture research instruments, and corporate performance evaluation frameworks was performed.

National Research Projects

Research Council of Lithuania. Factors, Influencing the Willingness to Disclose Personal Data, and Impact of the Willingness on the Choice of a Purchasing Channel (LMTLT), Agreement No P-MIP-19-12.

The project aims to find out what factors influence the willingness to disclose personal data, when it is collected for commercial purposes, and how the willingness influences purchasing. More specifically, it seeks to (1) discover the main antecedents of the willingness to disclose personal data, and (2) find out how the willingness influences the choice of a purchasing channel (on-line, of-line, multi-channel) and how it interacts with the trust in a seller and with the expected benefit from the data disclosure.
The first publications will be developed in 2020.

Development of A Game-Based Electronic Distance Learning Platform Based on Blockchain Technology (project is being implemented in partnership with the company Bitdegree under the name 鈥淚ntelektas鈥; Project No. JO5-LVPA-K-04-0133).

The project aims to discover learning motivations in the context of e-learning. At this moment, three stages of theoretical analysis have been performed. The first stage allowed to clarify the theoretical basis for further research (Self-Determination Theory); the second 鈥 purify the factors that impact the intention to study and the selection of massive open online courses (MOOCs). The third stage of analysis focuses on the reasons for MOOCs success. Performed theoretical analysis allowed to develop research model and instruments for data collection. Data collection process is going.
The first publications will be developed in 2020.
