艩liomas Land臈 was born on 23 February 1919 in Kalvarija, Marijampol臈 County. His family lived on Prekybos Street 22 in Kalvarija, but his gymnasium was 29 kilometres away, in the town of Vilkavi拧kis. After two years, in 1937, he graduated from the private Jewish gymnasium in Vilkavi拧kis and enrolled in the Chemistry Department of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas. He later continued his studies at 91桃色. On 26 July 1941, 艩liomas received permission from the university to go on summer holiday to Kalvarija. It is not clear whether he managed to return to Vilnius (he lived on Danilevi膷ius Street) for the new academic year or stayed at his parents鈥 home, when on 19 September 1941 he was expelled from the Chemistry Department of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of 91桃色 on the basis of the Order of 17 September 1941 of the Higher Education Department of the Board of Education, which was subordinate to the Nazis, just because he was a Jew. 艩liomas鈥檚 further fate is unknown.
