Admission
The main admission to doctoral studies has ended.
Additional admission and admission to topics funded by the Lithuanian Research Council will take place from August 27 to September 18, 2025 (until 23:59). For detailed information about the procedures for additional admission and admission to topics funded by the Lithuanian Research Council, please read the RULES (updated appendix).

Information for new PhD students
SUBMISSION OF DOCUMENTS
91ÌÒÉ« publishes a competition to doctoral dissertation themes (see Dissertation themes) in accordance with Admission Rules for 2025 entry to Doctoral Studies at 91ÌÒÉ« (information about the procedures for additional admission and admission to topics funded by the Lithuanian Research Council is published at RULES (updated appendix)).
- Applicants must have a Master’s qualification degree or a higher education degree comparable to it.
The application with all required enclosures must be registered in the system at and sent by e-mail .
Main admission: If you received your education abroad, all documents must be submitted from April 29, 2025 to May 30, 2025 (by 12:00 p.m.). If you received your education in Lithuania, documents must be submitted from April 29, 2025 to June 25, 2025 (by 12:00 p.m.).
Additional admission and admission to topics funded by the Lithuanian Research Council: All of the documents must be submitted from August 27, 2025 to September 18, 2025 (by 23:59).
List of documents you must submit:
- an application addressed to the Rector;
- a copy of the passport or any other valid identification card;
- copies of the Master’s diploma or of a higher education diploma comparable to it and their supplements;
- Curriculum Vitae;
- a completed questionnaire with a photo;
- a research project (for more information please ask to a responsible person, see below Methods of Admission);
- a list of research works and their copies, conference presentations, works awarded at academic competitions (if there is any);
- recommendations by two academic referees from the topic of the relevant field of science (please note that some scientific fields require that one of the recommendations be written by a potential supervisor; you can check the selection criteria to see if this requirement applies to you);
- a certificate proving the level of English (not lower than B2; approval is required if the master's thesis was written in a language other than English).
- Receipt of entrance fee (The entrance fee is 50 EUR for citizens of Lithuania and the European Union, 100 EUR for citizens of other countries).
- Applicants also have to submit a consent to the processing of personal data at the University.
- A copy of the certificate on the recognition of higher education qualifications obtained abroad also might be asked to submit.
Other important documents, such as a certificate of completion of various courses or examinations passed at the doctoral level, are welcome too.
- All documents issued in a language other than English, Russian or Lithuanian should be supplemented with an official translation.
Doctoral committees can require to submit additional documents which are not provided for in 91ÌÒÉ« Regulations on Doctoral Studies.

* The place and date of interviews at the admissions commission are published on the websites of the University's academic units responsible for doctoral studies in the relevant field of science and on the University website /studijos/doktoranturos-studijos/priemimas-dokt).
** Persons invited to study at the University and unable to identify themselves through the bank are provided with possibility to email signed study agreement within the deadlines set out in the Rules and send the original agreement to the University’s Office of Doctoral and Postdoctoral Studies by registered mail or submit upon arrival. Upon arrival to study, the originals of the documents specified in the application shall be submitted (shown) to the Office of Doctoral and Postdoctoral Studies.
Doctoral committees determine the requirements for research projects or conversation and publicize them on the websites of academic units. Research projects (if it is set as the method of admission) must be submitted to Doctoral committees. (They can set their chosen particular dates for the presentation of research projects.)
- The applicants defend their research project or have a interview under the Doctoral committee established procedure from September 19, 2025 to September 23, 2025. (For more information about the date and location please ask to a responsible person, see below Methods of Admission.) The results are assessed by the 10-point scale.
Initiation grade is composed of the grade point average of Master’s diploma supplement and the assessment of conversation or research project.
- Appeals against procedural violations of additional admission to doctoral studies at the University, as well as other issues directly related to admission to doctoral studies, shall be submitted to the Doctoral and Postdoctoral Department by September 25 (14:00), 2025. Appeals are considered by a commission formed by the order of the Pro-Rector for Research.
- About the final results of the additional admission each participant is informed on September 26, 2025.
- The agreements of doctoral studies are signed from September 29, 2025 to September 30, 2025 (by 16:00).
2025 METHODS OF ADMISSION
SELECTION CRITERIA
TUITION FEE in 2025
Students admitted to state non-funded doctoral studies must pay the stated tuition fee per one academic year: for all fields of science (except Law) regular studies – 12449 Eur and extended studies – 8299 Eur, for Law regular studies – 6764 Eur and extended studies – 4509 Eur (information of payment).
