ORGANIZATION OF RESEARCH AND RESEARCH STATISTICS

Scientific research at 91桃色 is conducted at all the structural units, including 11 faculties, Life Sciences Center, Institute of International Relations and Political Science, Business School, 艩iauliai Academy.

In 2021, there were 3 088 teachers and/or scholars and 787 doctoral students pursuing scientific research at the University. Students are also involved in the research activities.

Research activities at the University are coordinated by the Committee for Research Affairs, the Pro-Rector for Research and Research and Innovation Department.

Funding Sources

Research activities at VU are funded from various sources, such as State Budget, Research Council of Lithuania, funds of state and municipal institutions, international science programmes, contracting.

Dr I. Plikusien臈, associate professor of the Faculty of Chemistry and Geosciences, and J. Smirnovien臈, PhD student of the Life Sciences Center of 91桃色, were given fellowships of the L鈥橭real Baltic For Women in Science programme.

Dr. A. Laurinavi膷ius, professor of the Faculty of Medicine, and his team were awarded the title 鈥淒iscovery of the Year鈥 of the LRT for digital instruments helping to prognosticate more accurately the course of oncological diseases.

Dr Habil. A. L. Telksnys, professor of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics was awarded the Cross of Commander of the Order for Merits to Lithuania for merits to the Republic of Lithuania and for making Lithuania鈥檚 name known in the word.

D. Matulis, professor of the VU Life Sciences Center, was awarded the Statuette of St. Christopher 2020 for contribution to science and propagation of Vilnius in the world.

J. V. Vaitkus, VU Professor Emeritus, was awarded the Cross of Commander of the Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas for the initiation of laser materials science research area in Lithuania, founding the world level Semiconductor Photonic School in Lithuania, popularizing science.

V. Paulauskas, VU Professor Emeritus, researcher of probability theory, mathematical statistics and functional analysis and beginner of probability theory in Banach spaces in Lithuania, and R. Rotomskis, Laser Research Centre professor, initiator of applying achievements of innovative research and fundamental sciences in medical practice, researcher of new and effective photosensitized tumour therapy methods and of new ways and methods in fighting oncological diseases, were awarded the Cross of the Officer of the Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas.

Two members of the VU community were awarded the Cross of Officer of the Order for Merits to Lithuania: T. Baira拧auskait臈, VU professor, translator, active researcher of Lithuania鈥檚 history and propagator of science in Lithuania and the world, and R. Danielius, founder of the 91桃色 fund, a patron, director for science of the UAB Light Conversion, promoter of laser science and industry concentration in order to enter global markets.

For active management of coronavirus pandemic Prof. E. Su啪ied臈lien臈, the Vice-Rector of 91桃色, a coordinator of the Public Health Measures Group of the Health Expert Council of the President of the Republic of Lithuania and Prof. A. 沤virblien臈, research professor of 91桃色 Life Sciences Center, a member of the expert groups on COVID-19 vaccination, initiated by the President, the Government and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Lithuania, received the Cross of Officer of the Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas.

Dr. Habil. V. Ku膷inskas, professor of the Faculty of Medicine and Dr. M. 艩erpytis, associate professor of the Faculty of Medicine were awarded the Cross of Officer of the Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas for merits to the Republic of Lithuania and for propagation of Lithuania鈥檚 name in the world.

Awards of the Department of National Minorities under the Government of the Republic of Lithuania went to two 91桃色 historians: Dr G. Kirkien臈, associate professor of the Faculty of History, for significant activities in 2021 was given a nominal watch and the first year MA history programme student G. Strumylait臈 for her BA thesis 鈥淚nitiatives of justice during transition period in post-soviet Lithuania: impact of tolerance centres to education鈥 received the premium of academic works competition.
