Lithuanian Particles and Discourse Structure from a Synchronic and Diachronic Perspective (S-MIP-21-18). Assoc. Prof. Dr E. Jasionyt臈-Miku膷ionien臈. Participants: Assoc. Prof. Dr A. Ruskan, Assist. Prof. Dr A. 艩olien臈. 2021鈥2024.
The project deals with a comprehensive analysis of the class of particles in Lithuanian. It will be carried out from both a synchronic and diachronic perspective by exploring authentic data obtained from Present-Day Lithuanian corpora and from Old Lithuanian texts. The project aims to provide a thorough synchronic and diachronic account of Lithuanian particles belonging to different semantic classes by focussing on the role of particles in discourse structure, by establishing the connection between particles and different units of discourse and by examining the formation and development of particles within the processes of (inter)subjectification and lexicalization as well as to specify the status of particles in Lithuanian grammar on the basis of a unifying methodology and new theoretical frameworks. The study will combine qualitative and quantitative methods of analysis.

The Project aims at investigating numerous lexical aspects of languages: the meaning of a word and a phrase, phraseology and collocations, lexicographic problems, lexical, semantic and pragmatic aspects of different discourses (legal, academic, public and mass media, humour, learner, etc.) in one language or across several languages.
The task for 2021 focused on some cognitive aspects of language study: 1) identifying the key features of metaphoricity in different types of discourse (law, public, media, etc.) and 2) cognitive aspects of spatial expressions. Moreover, in 2021 the project also focused on corpus-based methodologies and their application in the analysis of lexical bundles and phraseology in learner language.
