The project aims at investigation of multimodal texts in various public areas such as advertising, films etc. In 2021 the research focused on multimodal metaphors in audiovisual products, expression of multimodal humour, multimodal logotypes as well as implementation of these aspects in education. Moreover, rhetorical argumentation in social networks was investigated.

The research carried out under this project deals with theoretical frameworks, research methodologies and applications of audiovisual translation. The main focus of the research was on classification and clarification of audiovisual translation terminology, translation of culture specific items for dubbing, semiotic cohesion in subtitling as well as aspects of accessibility of audiovisual products.

The research focused on the literature of the 20th century, investigating the concepts of cultural and historical trauma, representation of traumatic experiences in literature, images of gender stereotypes in literary texts as well as in periodicals and advertisements of interwar Lithuania. Moreover, the phenomenon of book smuggling as a symbol of Lithuanians' resistance to Russification in the 19th century has been investigated.

The tasks for 2021 focused on different aspects of language varieties and language attitudes studies. Researches focused (1) on the discourse of dialectology aimed at the interpretation of the aesthetic value of dialectality; (2) on the analysis of mental maps and their value; (3) on the conflict communication discourse and critical discourse analysis; (3) on the the urbanonyms as the semiotic signs related to the culture and history of a nation analysis; (4) on the adverbs in Lithuanian slang analysis.

The objectives of the research were to gather, digitize and investigate heritage phenomena of cultural groups, to carry out analysis of Soviet-era youth hippie groups, to examine folk piety narratives about saints in Lithuanian culture of the middle of the 20th to the beginning of the 21st century.

International Research Projects

Cost action. Leading Platform for European Citizens, Industries, Academia and Policymakers in Media Accessibility (LEAD-ME OC-2019-1-24171). Prof. L. Huber. 2020鈥2024.

The project aims to help all stakeholders in the field of Media Accessibility and cross-cutting topics in Europe to meet the legal milestones requested by the recently passed European legislation. LEAD-ME will boost a cultural change and the creation of a new mind-set when designing tools for professional and private activities for all European citizens of all abilities and disabilities.

National Research Projects

State Commission of the Lithuanian Language. Linguistic Features of Lithuanian Slang (No. K-16/2019/(1.78)SU-1397). Assoc. Prof. Dr R. Kudirka. 2019鈥2021.

The aim of the project is to describe in detail and systematically the adverbs, adjectives, verbs and nouns of the Lithuanian language in the aspect of origin, formation and pronunciation. Research methods: structural, morphological, derivative, and etymological analysis.

The aim of the project is to collect and digitize a comprehensive archive of informal Lithuanian youth press, self-published during the Soviet occupation and in the first decade of Lithuania鈥檚 independence (1968鈥2000), mainly focusing on gathering a collection of fanzines.

The project is dedicated towards the analysis of the opportunities for socially vulnerable groups 鈥 the visually and hearing impaired 鈥 to fully participate in the Lithuanian cultural life: watch movies, attend performances, participate in events, etc. This project aims at assessing the quality and benefits of the audiovisual products which have already been made accessible in Lithuania. Moreover, needs of blind and deaf viewers will be identified and guidelines for the adaptation of audiovisual products will be provided.

The research aims to analyse the strategies and procedures of the translation of culture-specific items in selected Lithuanian-dubbed animated films released in 2015鈥2020.

Research Council of Lithuania. Henry Parland鈥檚 Semiosphere (No. 09.3.3-LMT-K-712-23-0109). Dr G. Vaitonyt臈, Prof. Dr S. Radzevi膷ien臈 (supervisor). 2021鈥2023.

The purpose of the project is to study Henry Parland鈥檚 semiotic continuum, in which the Parlandian meaning is formed. The tasks of the research are as follows: to analyse communication processes within texts and contexts, to investigate the mobility of Parland鈥檚 semiosphere, to determine the effect of the Parland phenomenon on cultural memory, to define Parland鈥檚 semiotic continuum.

The sustainability assessment methodology for sustainability assessment of countries and regions was developed. This methodology integrates sustainability assessment of the most important branches of economy including energy sector. The developed methodology was empirically tested in energy sector. The most important sustainable energy indicators were identified and framework for linking these indicators in the chain of mutual impacts was developed. The sustainability assessment of energy sector development in the Baltic Sea Region was performed by applying developed methodology and several multi-criteria decision aiding tools.

The group carries out research on creative industries and their influence on organizational and national competitiveness as well as individual, social and national identity and image making. It focuses on reputation management in social media, peculiarities of communication management for branding of companies, cities and states. Another aspect of their research encompasses the impact of cultural diversity on organizational innovativeness and its outcomes such as artistic innovations or cultural enterprises. Cultural diversity is approached both from organizational and communities (countryside and urban, communities of practice in organizations) perspectives. This gains momentum considering the recent social issues of immigrant flows to Europe, emigration rates from Lithuania and cultural activities of Lithuanian Diasporas worldwide. From a diversity perspective, women studies constitute a specific area of the group鈥榮 research. The group plans to provide research-informed advice to public bodies on economic (innovation), cultural and migration policy development.

Research of the relationship between socially responsible human resource management practices and turnover intentions moderated by supervisor鈥檚 gender, construction of unity and fragmentation in organisational culture through discourses of trust and distrust were explored in Finnish organisations. Results of an international intensive course 鈥淐ases in Organizational Ethics鈥 were presented in a research publication. Empirical data for an international project 鈥淐SR research and teaching in Central and Eastern Europe鈥 led by Sussex University (UK) were collected. Research proposal on dignity management in public organisations was submitted to Research Council of Lithuania.

The focus was on big data visualization that is based on dimensionality reduction methods. Research was focused on proposed a multi-level method for data clustering and visualization. It divides the whole data mining process into separate steps and applies particular dimensionality reduction method considering the analysed data volume and type. The methods are selected according to their speed and accuracy. Therefore, ongoing research of comparison of the selected methods according to these two criteria was presented. Three groups of datasets containing different kind of data are used for methods evaluation. The factors that influence speed or accuracy are determined.

The overall project aim is to bring RRI into the linked up global world to promote mutual learning and collaboration in RRI.
