Lexicon and Discourse: Semantics, Idiomaticity, Vocabulary. Prof. I. ?e?kauskien?. 2019¨C2022. The following researchers were involved in the Project in 2020: Dr J. Cibulskien?, Dr R. Juknevi?ien?, Dr V. Kazlauskien?, Dr B. Ryvityt?, Dr L.Vilkait?-Lozdien?.
The Project aims at investigating numerous lexical aspects of languages: the meaning of a word and a phrase, phraseology and collocations, lexicographic problems, lexical, semantic and pragmatic aspects of different discourses (legal, academic, public and mass media, humour, learner, etc.) in one language or across several languages.
The task for 2020 focused on some cognitive aspects of language study: 1) identifying the key features of metaphoricity in different types of discourse (law, public, media, etc.) and 2) cognitive aspects of spatial expressions in learner language. Moreover, in 2020 the project also focused on corpus-based methodologies and their application in the analysis of lexical bundles and phraseology and the influence of morphological form of collocations on the speed of their processing.

Corpora and Field Researches of the Sentential Relative Clause in Balkan Languages. Russian Foundation of Fundamental Investigations. Participant: Prof. F. Eloeva.
The project deals with sentential relative clause in Balkan languages from a number of perspectives. Not only does the book cover what is traditionally treated in studies from a European and Semitic orientation ¨C prepositions, but it presents studies on postpositions, too. The main languages dealt with in the collection are Albanian, Modern Greek, Bulgarian with special accent on dialect variations (Trakonian, Pontic, Marioupolitan dialects of Modern Greek) basing on the result of the field research. Sentential relative clause is treated by some authors from a semantic perspective, by others as syntactic units or from the point of view of their pragmatic function.

Germanic and Romance Literary and Cultural Texts. Prof. Dr R. Rudaityt?. 2019¨C2022.
The department (in cooperation with the departments of French and German Philology as well as the Centre for Scandinavian Studies) has been carrying out investigation of literary trends, genres and problems of poetics, the development of literary traditions, the relationship of literary texts with Philosophy, Aesthetics, Psychology, Sociology and other theoretical systems. Some of the academic staff has been continually doing research in the field of the history of Germanic literatures and literatures in Romance languages and publishing articles on the related issues.

Germanic, Romance and Baltic Language Studies. Prof. Dr Habil. A. Usonien?. 2019¨C2021.
The linguists of the department carry out this research in close collaboration with their colleagues based at the departments of German Philology, the Lithuanian Language and the Centre for Scandinavian studies. The focus of the research is on the synchronic and diachronic analysis of language-specific features characteristic of the grammatical, lexical and semantic structure of the languages under study. The range of research methods used and theoretical approaches followed varies greatly: from purely descriptive to functional, from cognitive to socio-linguistic, from quantitative to qualitative analysis of authentic language data.

Research Council of Lithuania. A Taxonomy of Verbal Imagery in Poetic Discourse. Post-doctoral research grant. Dr D. Castiglione.
The project aims at developing taxonomy of verbal images identified in poetic discourse based on a qualitative and quantitative analysis of 195 canonical Anglo-American poems. Images will be parsed according to a number of grammatical, semantic and structural parameters affecting language imageability, and will therefore be treated as stable units amenable to linguistic analysis. This stands in sharp contrast with the traditionally vague characterization of image (and imagery) in literary criticism, which has so far prevented stylistics from dealing with them systematically or even from dealing with them at all. An IIP (Image Identification Procedure) will therefore be developed to complement the existing MIP (Metaphor Identification Procedure).

Research Council of Lithuania. Microhistory of "The Voices of Spring": Genetic Reconstruction of Modernization of Lithuanian Texts (S-MOD-17-7). Prof. P. V. Suba?ius.
The project targets at a paradoxical gap: although much has been written about Maironis, critics usually heed to the final result of his work only. The author¡¯s decision to re©\edit the sole collection of the verses The Voices of Spring go with the methodology of genetic criticism in the best way. The project aims to carry out a genetic reconstruction, to present the facsimiles, to publish the XML-encoded versions and commentaries employing a single critical archive, i.e. a comprehensive digital platform, synthesising academic and popular discourse functions.
