COST Action: IS1308: Populist Political Communication in Europe: Comprehending the Challenge of Mediated Political Populism for Democratic Politics. The coordinator activities are supported by the EU Framework Programme Horizon 2020. Prof. Dr. Toril Aalberg (Norwegian University of Science and Technology). 2014-2018.
The goal of this Action was to investigate populist political communication and its impact on democratic political life across Europe. This is necessary not only in light of recent populist backlashes in many democracies against governments and political and economic developments, but also in respect to changes in national media and communication systems.
In order to comprehend this poorly understood aspect of contemporary political communication this Action will examine three interconnected, but distinct aspects of populist political communication: 1) populist political communication actors and their communication strategies; 2) the media and populist discourses and frames; 3) citizen鈥檚 engagement with populist political messages and the effect of these messages.
This Action will provide a thorough critical review of existing knowledge, much improved research coordination, widen co-operation between scholars, bridge gaps in existing knowledge and strengthen dialogue with various societal stakeholders, benefiting media organizations, NGOs and policy actors as well as the wider scientific community. COST Action IS1308: Populist Political Communication in Europe: Comprehending the Challenge of Mediated Political Populism for Democratic Politics (07/04/2014鈥06/04/2018). The coordinator activities are supported by the EU Framework Programme Horizon 2020. Prof. Dr. Toril Aalberg (Norwegian University of Science and Technology).
The goal of this Action was to investigate populist political communication and its impact on democratic political life across Europe. This is necessary not only in light of recent populist backlashes in many democracies against governments and political and economic developments, but also in respect to changes in national media and communication systems.
In order to comprehend this poorly understood aspect of contemporary political communication this Action will examine three interconnected, but distinct aspects of populist political communication:
First, populist political communication actors and their communication strategies. Second, the media and populist discourses and frames. Third, citizen鈥檚 engagement with populist political messages and the effect of these messages.
Analysis of the potential of digital technologies for reduction of second and third level of digital inequalities was carried out. The means of reduction of digital divide by reading and digital reading were explored. The measures and indicators for measuring impact of digital means on reduction of inequalities were explored and selected for adaptation to the Lithuanian context. Two articles prepared and submitted for review in scholarly journals.
The partners for carrying out the experimental activity were sought and selected. The overall design of activities for experimental investigation was carried out together with the partners. The project to attract additional financing for the partners was submitted and it was successful. The final design of experimental activities and measuring their impact is under development.

COST Action IS1404 E-READ. Evolution of Reading in the Age of Digitization. The coordination activities are supported from the EU RTD Framework Programme. Dr. A. Mangen (University of Stavanger, Norway). 2014鈥2018.
The goal of this Action was to improve scientific understanding of the implications of digitization, hence helping individuals, disciplines, societies and sectors across Europe to cope optimally with the effects. Based on a multidimensional, integrative model of reading, and combining paradigms from experimental sciences with perspectives (e.g., diachronic) from the humanities, the Action develops new research paradigms and metrics for assessing the impact of digitization on reading. These metrics enable the development of evidence-based knowledge of paper and screen reading, and provide guidance for practitioners, policy makers, publishers and designers.

Gender studies is a versatile research field, which encompasses gender equality and human (women鈥檚 men鈥檚, queer, other) rights; women, men, and queer studies; historical component of gender and social gender movements; gender dimension in different socio-cultural institutions (family, education, economics, politics, medicine, etc.) and socio-cultural contexts (national states, subcultures, professions, etc.); gender related implications on micro (individual), meso (organizational, communal), and macro (national, regional, global) levels; and many others. Thus, the field outspreads on numerous gender and related theories as well as on the feminist and other ontological, epistemological, and methodological developments. On the other hand, in terms of social policy, the field directly relates to the main ideas and societal goals of strengthening democracy, implementing overall equality, developing knowledge-based society et al.

It also enabled to identify functions of provenance in the digital environment. Research results were presented at the international conference.
- The scope of the content of authenticity and provenance wad defined, identifying the dimensions necessary for the support core preservation functions and ensuring interoperability 鈥 the ability to exchange data amongst institutions, and the value-added of Europeana and VEPIS was estimated, regarding the authenticity and provenance based on the adequacy of analysed metadata dictionaries, specifications or models. Research results were presented at an international conference.
- 91桃色 academics, researchers and doctoral students were surveyed, using survey instrument, prepared by international group of researchers on information literacy. The aim of the research was to analyse state-of-the-art on data literacy and research data management skills and experience at 91桃色. - We created the questionnaire for developing an understanding on secondary school teachers鈥 knowledge on information literacy and practices implemented in developing student鈥檚 information literacy skills (acronym 鈥 KILS). This tool consists of 26 items grouped into three categories. We tested the validation and reliability of the measuring instrument, the questionnaire. The sample tested was n=102 of the Lithuanian elite secondary school teacher population. The authors conclude that the questionnaire is suitable for a full-scale survey.
