Research on the Problems of Formation of Accounting System and Evaluation of Efficiency of Audit System. Prof. Dr. R. Suba膷ien臈. 2017鈥2020.

Theory issues, types, spheres and methods of financial accounting were investigated, evolution of accounting regulation in six countries evaluated. The theoretical insights of complex analysis of company bankruptcy forecasting were presented, the waves of enterprises and integral assessment of developmental stability in different countries were analysed. The content of controlling concept and application of activity-based costing were evaluated. The development of Lithuanian financial audit system was investigated and differentiation of performance materiality in audit was analysed.

The Evaluation of Lithuania鈥檚 Business Changes Influencing Factors, for Seeking Competitive Advantage in the Integrated Market. Assoc. Prof. Dr. A. Fominien臈. 2016鈥2020.

One section of the project is research by A. Ulbinait臈, focusing on the impact of cultural, social, and economic values on the life insurance market in the Asian societies and economics with a special focus on the case of Taiwan and the phenomenon of death taboo that shapes the life insurance market in the modern world and determines its result. Moreover, the paper of A. Ulbinait臈 and her co-author analyses the concept of business integration, benefits, and causes of success and failure, providing a study case of Facebook and its acquisitions as an example of a successful growth strategy in the social media and network markets.

National Research Projects

Research Council of Lithuania. Modelling of Participation Strategy in the Second Pillar Pensions System. (Project No. MIP-012/2015). Project coordinator: 91桃色. Assoc. Prof. T. Gudaitis. 2015鈥2018.

This research project evaluates the Lithuanian second pillar pension system from the point of view of an individual participant. The goal of the research is to evaluate whether the participants, who joined second pillar pension system in 2004 and retire at the beginning of the year 2019, made the beneficial decision and increased their retirement income. Analysis was based on the historical results and data of pension accumulation of a 12-year period from 2004 until the end of 2015 with forecasted continuation of participation for the 2016鈥2018 period based on the methodology prepared by the authors. The results demonstrate that participation in the fully funded second pillar pension system, compared with non-participation, may in general be assessed as positive and effective.

Research on the Value Creation by Management Information and Business Intelligence Systems. Prof. R. Skyrius. 2016鈥2018.

The principal direction of the Department鈥檚 research efforts is concentrated on the key aspects of informing business users by development and implementation of management information systems (MIS) and business intelligence (BI) systems. A special interest for the last several years is given to the area of complex information needs, encompassing business intelligence, analytics, insight development and decision support (research in progress by PhD student

Svetlana Nemitko and completed research with defended PhD thesis by PhD student Georges Kfouri, with more potential PhD students contacting the Department and offering potential research input). The principal focal point of this direction is the key factors of value creation by providing advanced informing functions of business intelligence and analytics. Active research is performed in the areas of strategic planning and perceived value of information systems (doctoral dissertation in preparation by PhD student Gediminas Rum拧as).

Effectiveness of Economic and Social Policy: Modernisation, Growth and Globalisation. Prof. A. Mi拧kinis. 2018.
The first research aimed at analysing the welfare state models in Europe. Analysis revealed that CEE countries are diverse and thus two models of the welfare state - the Eastern Europe welfare model and the Central Europe welfare model 鈥 could be distinguished. It was observed that Central European welfare model is closer to the old European countries, while the Eastern European welfare model is very different from all other models.

Another study estimates the Index of Economic Well-Being for 15 Central and Eastern European countries 1991鈥2010, comparing this index with GDP at per capita level and growth rate. The research revealed that certain components of the Index have grown slower and thus hampered the growth of overall economic well-being relative to GDP per capita growth. If the economic well-being of citizens is not growing as fast as an increase in GDP per capita in a specific country, it could mean that there are some problems with social policy.
One study employs the panel data analysis and aims at distinguishing the factors affecting income inequality in the EU countries. The panel data models depicted the indirect negative relationship between investments and both dependent income inequality variables 鈥 the S80/S20 ratio and the Gini index. As the study found out, the EU membership increased income inequality.

One research focuses on trade between EU and Belarus. The influence of the EU on Belarus became more evident and converted into the process of Europeanization. It is interesting enough that the level of adaptation, according to the requirements of Europeanization, has an impact on the level of a given country鈥檚 foreign trade with the EU. The study analysed Europeanization as a part of Belarus integration into the world economy and current foreign trade and international economic relations between the EU, Belarus and Lithuania.

National Research Projects

Research Council of Lithuania. Evaluating Economic Potential of Lithuanian Municipalities (No. S-REP-18-6). Prof. A. Mi拧kinis. 2018.

The aim of the project was to evaluate the economic potential of Lithuanian regions and to give proposals for its development. The project applied both quantitative and qualitative analysis methods. Enterprise and expert surveys were carried out, and foreign regional policy practice and its possible applications for Lithuanian regions were analysed. According to the research results, the proposals for development of the economic potential of Lithuanian regions were developed.

International Research Projects

Project: Reassessment of the Optimum Currency Area in the Persistently Heterogeneous European Union (Euro4Europe). Project funded by the European Social Fund. Project is planned for 2018鈥2022. Dr. S. Kapounek.

Project aims at reassessing the evolution of business cycle synchronization in Europe from an encompassing point of view. It will analyse the evolution of business cycles at different levels of territorial disaggregation (national and regional), using a wide range of different univariate and multivariate econometric methods for measuring business cycle synchronization. Furthermore, it will use recently developed methods of causal inference to identify the effects of various integration steps and economic developments. In particular, the project will first assess the statistical properties and reliability of several concepts of business cycle synchronization.

Project: Joint Enterprise and University learning (JEUL). Project was financed by Erasmus+Capacity Building in Higher Education. Project coordinator 鈥 Siena University (Italy). Partners from 8 universities involved. The project is planned for 2018鈥2021.

The aim of this project is to establish and develop cooperation among HEI and private sector, to influence the way universities work and enable them to learn from the entrepreneurial nature of companies, develop and use case studies based on the experience of companies. The main deliverables of JEUL project are: a) establishing links between HEI and industry; b) developing and utilising case studies, embedding such teaching methodology in partner countries universities; c) identify skills and knowledge shortages and embed the required skills in the curricula; d) develop 2 undergraduate modules on the enterprise pathway and a suitable VLE delivery mode.

Projects Supported by University Budget

Growth of Companies鈥 Competitiveness through Development of Human Resource Management (HRM) Activities. Prof. D. Diskien臈. 2016鈥2020.

The aim of the research in 2018 was to analyse the impact of leadership and organizational reputation on strengthening organizational activities. The analysis of new leadership paradigm lead to the conclusion that leadership should be perceived as dynamic process resulting from interaction of people within organization and is clearly dependent on the context, and even more 鈥 on each participant identity expressed by self-competencies and on people鈥檚 relations. The analysis of managerial roles implied that the activities of managers still fall within the framework of the traditional managerial roles. Yet, findings also suggested that there was a substantial part which can be subsumed under the new separate roles as Analyser, Representor, and Networker. Research proved strong positive correlation between regrouped managerial roles and perceived managerial effectiveness.
Strengthening of organizational competitiveness by improving organizational reputation was analysed using the case of university and its ranking. Research identified beliefs towards a university associated with differentiative, reminding, informative and persuasive functions of university鈥檚 ranking. The analysis revealed that the majority of beliefs towards a university are related to the differentiative function of university rankings. Furthermore, the analysis showed that recruiting high quality teaching staff, scientific achievements and strong international partnerships were the main areas of influence of university rankings on university reputation.

The Study of Quality Management Methods and Tools Application for the Improvement of Effectiveness of Organizations鈥 Performance. Prof. J. Ru啪evi膷ius. 2016鈥2020.

The purpose of this research was to develop quality management theory and methodology striving for the growth of the competitiveness of Lithuanian economy, improving the effectiveness of the performance of private and public organizations and quality of public life.
The following targets in 2018 were addressed:
1) Systemic evaluation of non-formal training effectiveness was performed. Conclusion: social support (supervisor support and peer support) maintains the strongest links with the transfer of training, and accounts for 31 per cent of the benefit of training, in the meantime autonomy and workload neither correlates with the benefits of training, not predict them. Therefore, ensuring social support is a necessary precondition for higher efficiency of training, and higher performance quality.
2) Methodologies for calculating the carbon footprint of small organizations was developed. Conclusion: research revealed that the key factors for calculating the carbon footprint for small organizations are misunderstanding of general organization operation from the perspective of environmental, employee engagement, leadership of managers, and public sector key factors (such as education and advertising, lack of information, ecoculture education, green procurement, tax exemption). Based on the results of the research, the authors developed a methodology for calculating the carbon footprint and prepared an algorithm for its application, adapted to small organizations. It can be established that the successful carbon footprint implementation and operating outweighs formed issues in the long term.

National Research Projects

Research Council of Lithuania. Income Smoothing Over the Life Course from a Social Investment Perspective in the Baltic Countries (No.Ger-009/2017). This research project on income distribution in the Baltics is carried out by a group of researchers at 91桃色. Prof. R. Lazutka, Dr. J. Navick臈, Assoc. Prof. D. Sku膷ien臈, Assoc. Prof. J. Markevi膷i奴t臈, A. 膶i啪auskait臈.

The aim of the research project is to evaluate welfare provisions in the three Baltic states in terms of social investment and the reduction of income volatility across the individual life course.

A Network of Independent Experts assists the European Commission in monitoring and evaluating the situation with regard to social protection, poverty and social exclusion and the policies that are relevant in this respect in the Member States and Accession countries. The Network Core Team produces synthesis reports, bringing together the main results of the analysis across countries.
