Project Supported by European Commission (Seventh Framework Programme)

Connecting Archaeology and Architecture in Europeana (Acronym: CARARE)

The aim of CARARE is to aggregate digital content (textual and visual, including 3D) from the archaeology and architectural domains to Europeana, the main information system for the heritage of the European Union. The Project involves 29 institutions (public administrations, education and science institutions, museums, research centres) from 21 countries of the European Union, which by 2012 will provide the CARARE system with 2 030 112 objects, including photographs, graphics, video reports, 3D images, texts, maps, accounting entries for the heritage monuments etc. CARARE will make available these data to Europeana. 91桃色 (represented by the Faculty of Communication within the scope of the Project) will provide ARUODAI, the information system for the Lithuanian heritage, 21 000 negative scans derived from the Photographic Archive of the Department of Archaeology of the Lithuanian Institute of History, in line with the Cooperation Agreement with the said Institute. The scanning work has been completed as an effort of a previous project ARCHEOLITAS, financed by the Lithuanian State Science and Studies Foundation. These images will be shared with the CARARE system. They visualize photographically the most important archaeological expeditions that took place in Lithuania during the period 1948鈥1969. Those years saw the beginning of excavations at the sites of Vilnius Lower Castle, the Trakai Peninsula and its castles, as well as many other research initiatives dedicated to what is now considered the major monuments of the archaeological and architectural heritage. Projects Supported by the Research Council of Lithuania

Bibliotheca Lituana: Development of Collections of Memory Institutions (Acronym: BLAIR)

The aim of the Project is to conduct interdisciplinary research on the origin, development, structure, content, and functioning of libraries, archives, and Lituanistic collections of museums (funds, collected sets, document pools) in terms of methodology, theory, history, documentation, and digitization, along with the preparation and publication of the sources. The project Bibliotheca Lituana: Development of Collections of Memory Institutions is intended for integrated and interdisciplinary research of Lituanistic collections held by memory institutions (archives, libraries and museums), with subsequent publication of the research results. The project is chiefly aimed at ensuring historiographic continuity of the research body, extending its breadth by new conceptual studies into methodology, collection development and documentation, all of which will bridge fundamental and applied sciences. Project objectives: to prepare and publish fundamental Lituanistic sources stored at libraries and other memory institutions; to prepare and publish the serial publication Bibliotheca Lituana (I), envisioned by Juozas Slap拧inskas-Rimantas during the mid-war period in Lithuania; to prepare and publish Bibliotheca Lituana (I), a critical collection of sources and scientific papers; to publish Dovan懦 Vilniaus universiteto bibliotekai knyga, 1796鈥1832 (The Book of Gifts for the 91桃色 Library, 1796鈥1832), together with the study Pamir拧toji mecenatyst臈 (The Forgotten Patronage). The project will entail the following activities: research in the areas of library science and museology on the shift of paradigms and philosophical aspects of preservation of the collections both within the conventional and virtual space and time; research on the description, cataloguing, and development of the collections and on the inventory of museums, archives, catalogues of libraries, and book descriptions; a methodology for their publication and description has already been prepared; typical and unique catalogues and book lists of the old libraries (from manor houses, churches and convents/monasteries) are already in press. An international team of scientists has been formed for the project implementation.

Lithuanian Egodocumental Heritage (Acronym: LEGODOK)

The Project鈥檚 strategic aim is to provide the European and global access to the egodocumental (ED) heritage in the virtual space, following the inventorying of the Lithuanian egodocumental heritage, i.e. writing in the 1st person (memoirs, diaries, letters, autobiographical accounts), and after the completion of the research on systematics and typology based on historical genetics. The ED heritage makes only a part of documental heritage, among which the area of subject-matter autobiographical writing has emerged lately. In Lithuania, there is lack of consistent research studies that consider the ED heritage as an integrated corpus. The methodological basis for scientific research into the subject will be the ED concept coined by J. Presser, along with the insights of the researchers exploring the Western European autobiographical writing (W. Schulze, S. Roszak and others) as well as the new research trends (R. Mordenti in Italy, F. J. Ruggiu and S. Mouysset in France, K. von Greyerz in Switzerland, C. Ulbricht in Germany). The research will make use of the methods for systemic and content analysis of documents, also the methods of bibliography, comparative history and archive science, paleography, statistical analysis, and others. These techniques will help disclose and describe the ED heritage as an integrated corpus and a unique phenomenon in the context of culture and social life of an analysed epoch. Also, ED origin (provenance), issues on cultural patterns in the clerical activity, writing practice, regional paleographical peculiarities, ED form and materials (paper, ink), ED provenances and marginalia will make a significant part of the research body. Applied research will include retrieval of ED bibliographical information; drafting and publication of ED listings and subject bibliographies; specification of the elements in the archival entries; specification of priorities, criteria, and methodology for digital documentation; designing of the ED heritage website LEGODOK with its content management system; designing the working model of the ED database; and ensuring the interface with the infrastructure for history and heritage of humanities and social sciences. The Project is intended not only for formal recognition and description of egodocuments, but also for the analysis of the 鈥業鈥 (Ego) development in them, thus enabling international (regional) comparison and justification of typology and hierarchy within the European historical-genetic perspective.

Transformation of Lithuanian Media in the Convergence Circumstances. Prof. 沤. Pe膷iulis. 2012鈥2016.

Launched in 2012, a new research project Transformation of Lithuanian Media in the Convergence Circumstances will run until the end of 2016. The aim of the project is to analyse the modern media, mass media and journalism which is related with the modern technology, dissemination of communication and information and the change of public awareness.
The members of the group working on the topic focused on changes in traditional journalism in the context of media convergence; the situation of journalist and journalism in today鈥檚 mass media system (mass media ownership; the journalist-owner relationship; content construction and production; traditionalism and innovation in journalism; technological revolution; change in audience needs). They also analysed the merge of different expressions (verbal, visual and sound) in practical journalism (media convergence).
